Preventing Trench Mouth

The trench mouth symptoms can be controlled most easily by eliminating the factors that contribute to this painful condition. Trench mouth got its name from the many soldiers in World War I who were unable to care for their teeth properly and developed infection as a result.
Poor dental habits are the most common cause of trench mouth. Not just poor care but not brushing or flossing at all. If bacteria in the mouth are not removed properly they will overgrow and work their way deep into the tooth and gums resulting in infection. Make sure to brush at least twice a day and floss every day to reduce the amount of bad bacteria. You may also consider using an electric toothbrush instead of a traditional one since they are thought to clean more effectively. Antiseptic mouthwashes may also help eliminate bacteria. Of course try to find natural alternatives to harsh traditional mouthwashes to reduce irritation of already tender tissues. Look for natural solution for trench mouth and natural cleaning products like peppermint and spearmint oils to clean the teeth and gums naturally. These oils hold antibacterial properties and are equally as effective at keeping the teeth and gums clean as any traditional toothpaste.
Cigarette smoking is also a leading factor in developing trench mouth. Eliminate or reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke. See your doctor if necessary for prescription medications that may help you stop smoking and support groups can also increase your chances for success.
Choose a healthy diet with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Avoid sugary foods which may make your condition worse.
Stress management is also key to helping your body heal and the best trench mouth cure. Emotional, physical and mental stress can all weaken our immune system. When our immune system is not able to function properly infections can develop more quickly and spread more easily. You may want to consider exercise, meditation or breathing techniques to help reduce your stress levels which may in turn help your body’s defenses overall.
